Great decanter and aerator

The decanter turned out to be much better in person than what I had expected from the pictures. I expected the glass to be really thin, but it was surprisingly thick and looks to be constructed really well. If you have a big gathering, this can comfortably hold upwards of 2 magnums (or 4+ 750ml wine bottles).

The decanter essentially speedens up the process of opening the body of the wine when it is first poured from the bottle. The difference may not be so noticeable in recent vintage wines, which probably don’t need much time to aerate if at all, but older vintage wines open up much faster with this decanter. Leave the wine in the decanter for at least 30 minutes before drinking, this I think is just enough time for the wine to open up.

The aerator is a good addition to the decanter, also of good quality. However note that it comes with a aluminum sediment filter. I do NOT recommend using this at all. The aluminum will affect the taste of the wine to a small…

Aerator impossible to clean

The decanter system itself works. That’s great and all, until the time comes to clean the aerator. The aerator itself is a double-walled system, but what it doesn’t show is that you can’t take it apart. Say, for example, you flush it with clean water, but since the holes on the bottom of the stem aren’t exactly at the very bottom, and the fact that the liquid needs pressure to be forced out, you always end up with a few drops sitting at the bottom of the stem. Turning it upside-down will only cause the water to sit at the sealed walled at the top of the aerator. The water is stuck there unless you shake it out every few minutes as it accumulates, or just let it dry, possible leaving sediments and minerals sitting at the bottom of the stem, and quite possibly affecting the taste of your next wine. For the money asked, I expected better.
